Yoga for mental freeness

Let us imagine that the ideal state of mental being is like a pool of clear water. Now this state has many components – freedom from stress, ability to think clearly, ability to focus and concentrate, confidence and absence of insecurities

In short it is a state in which one is completely at peace. At peace with ourselves, with the people around us and with the environment. All our lives we strive to reach this ideal state. And sometimes we do reach this state, but then change or some undesirable external stimulus comes along like a stone and disturbs the clear pool and once more we are full of ripples trying to regain our calm, clear state.

Yoga is one system that helps us get to that ideal state. Firstly there is the physical angle – yoga helps you look your best. You feel fit and toned, your skin starts glowing. You feel more confident and insecurities about the way you look start to disappear. And then there is the mental aspect. The asanas, breathing and meditation techniques help you cope with stress, you start thinking more clearly, you are more focused. You become more positive and start seeing the silver lining around the tough situations that life surprises you with. In today’s article, we take a look at some techniques that will help us start our journey towards the ‘ideal state’.
The word shashank means moon. The moon symbolizes peace and calm and emits soothing vibrations. This asana also has a cooling and calming effect. It is a pose that relaxes an rejuvenates. An excellent pose for meditation too!

•Inhale and raise arms above head. Exhale and bend forward. Keep arms and head straight and in line with trunk.
•Rest hands and forehead on floor in front of knees. Bend arms slightly, relax and let elbows rest on floor.
•Hold breath for about 5 seconds in this posture.
Inhale and raise arms and trunk back to vertical position. Exhale while bringing arms down to knees.
